Sparkling Smile with Teeth Whitening in Cedar Park

Teeth Whitening
A beautiful smile builds confidence and can boost your overall health and well-being. Reveal Dental offers various teeth whitening options in Cedar Park that can give you a brighter smile you will love.

Tobacco, coffee, tea, and red wine are the most common items that stain teeth. Yellowing or darkening of the teeth can be caused by medications and trauma, and teeth also tend to change color as you age.

In-Office ZOOM Whitening

In-office teeth whitening, sometimes known as chair side bleaching, is the fastest and most effective way to whiten teeth. Applied directly to the teeth, a whitening product such as hydrogen peroxide may be used in combination with a special light or laser. A protective gel or rubber shield is applied to protect gums prior to treatment.

Dramatic results are often achieved in one 60-minute session and can whiten teeth as much as 10 shades. The effects of in-office teeth whitening can last up to a year or more.

Customized Take-Home Teeth Whitening

Dr. Sura will take impressions and make trays that fit your teeth precisely. At home, you fill the trays with a professional grade whitening gel that contains a bleaching agent such as carbamide peroxide. Unlike over-the-counter products, customization of the trays allows maximum contact between the whitening gel and the teeth while reducing contact with gum tissue.

The trays are worn for 30 to 60 minutes per day or overnight for up to four weeks. They may continue to be used for an extended amount of time depending on the degree of staining and desired level of whitening.

Side Effects of Teeth Whitening

There are many studies supporting the overall safety of teeth whitening, but some patients do experience side effects such as a temporary increase in tooth sensitivity and slight irritation of the gums and soft tissues of the mouth.

Brushing your teeth with toothpaste made for sensitive teeth in the weeks before and after treatment can help soothe teeth’s nerve endings and diminish sensitivity. Sensitivity usually disappears within one to three days of completing whitening treatment.

Is Teeth Whitening for You?

  • People with extremely sensitive teeth, gum issues, or defective restorations should speak with their dentist before attempting teeth whitening. Individuals who are allergic to peroxide should never use bleaching products.
  • Gray teeth don’t whiten as well as teeth in the yellow shade range. They may get lighter, but will probably stay in the gray range and often take longer to whiten.
  • Materials used in dental restorations do not whiten. If you have multiple restorations whitening may not be the best option for you. Whitening procedures should be done before the placement of new restorations such as crowns, veneers or bonding.

If you are interested in a whiter, brighter countenance, contact Reveal Dental to discuss which option may be right for you. If you live near Cedar Park, our customized teeth whitening procedures will have you showing off your new smile in no time.
