Children's Dental HealthFebruary marks the National Children’s Dental Health Month, as sponsored by the American Dental Association (ADA). Here at Reveal Dental, many of us are parents ourselves, and we know how important it is to promote healthy oral habits early. As akids dentist in Cedar Park, we are pleased to participate in this year’s event.

What is National Children’s Dental Health Month?

The ADA began their campaign as a single day event back in 1949, and the event quickly gained popularity. So much so that the ADA extended their campaign to a week-long event in 1955. As awareness grew, the National Children’s Dental Health week was extended again in 1981, turning it into a month-long campaign to promote healthy oral hygiene habits.

Why Do We Participate in the National Children’s Dental Health Month?

Oral health can affect so many aspects of your child’s life, both now and in the future, and it is vital to instill proper oral habits as young as possible for long-term health. Unfortunately, a lot of parents underestimate its importance and believe that practicing good oral hygiene doesn’t have to start until adult teeth grow. The goal of ADA’s National Children’s Dental Health Month is to spread awareness of the importance of developing early habits.

How Does the National Children’s Dental Health Month Help?

The main goal of the ADA’s National Children Dental Health Month is to provide valuable information to parents and other caregivers. Educational material is accessible on the ADA website, and in the offices of your participating pediatric dentist in Cedar Park, among others.

What Can You Do?

The best thing you can do is ensure your child has a strong foundation of oral health by being involved in their dental care. A few things you can do include:

  • Supervising teeth brushing twice a day
  • Scheduling and keeping all recommended appointments
  • Spreading awareness among family and friends
  • Addressing dental problems promptly

As a kids dentist in Cedar Park we understand that visiting a dentist isn’t the most fun thing to do. We try to make the experience as care-free and fun as possible.  Nevertheless, as parents it is our responsibility to ensure our children grow up with healthy habits and healthy smiles.
